How CityBloks works

Small things, done.
That's the whole system.

Not a platform. Not a petition tool. Not a replacement for anything that already works.

CityBloks is a coordination layer for the maintenance layer of civic life — the everyday things that fall through every gap, that nobody owns, that everybody notices.

You already notice them. We built the infrastructure for what happens after you do.

Participation before money

$BLOK is earned through verified action. It cannot be purchased, transferred, or used to claim economic value.

Governance is deferred — by design

A community that earns governance has two years of proof behind it. That's what makes it trustworthy.

Small things first

The system operates on real, bounded, collectively-owned problems. Not abstractions. Not politics.

Non-partisan, structurally

Not a policy preference. A design constraint. No CityBloks mechanism may advantage or disadvantage any political position.

What it feels like

We want you to feel recognized — that this platform knows how you feel about where you live.

Then comes the moment of claim. You join your neighborhood Blok. It's the first time you say out loud: this is mine. I'm here.

Your Blok may not be active yet when you arrive. That's not a waiting room. While your Blok builds toward its first cycle, you participate in larger layers, like your city or state — real people, real things, coordinating for solutions.

Your presence is what makes your Blok real for your neighbors. It activates when enough people show up. You are one of those people.

What a Blok becomes

A long arc. Earned at every point.

A Blok doesn't arrive fully formed. It builds — through participation, through resolution, through demonstrated capacity. Here's what that arc looks like.

Each milestone creates something the next one depends on. You can't govern well what you haven't learned to coordinate. You can't deploy a treasury responsibly before you've proven you can execute. The path is long by design. A community that reaches Governance in two years has two years of proof behind it. That proof is what makes governance trustworthy.

Registration

The boundary is drawn.

The Blok exists on the map with nothing in it yet. Your Blok may be here right now. That's not a failure state. It's where every Blok starts.

1

Continuity

People start showing up, consistently.

The Blok develops a Memory — not a burst of activity, but a pattern.

2

Closure

Something gets resolved. Actually resolved.

A Driver moves through the full cycle and a Civic Record documents that something in the neighborhood is different. The wall got painted. The path got cleared. The party happened.

3

Legitimacy

Participation is broad enough, sustained enough, distributed enough.

To represent a real community rather than a small active core. It can't be declared. It can only be demonstrated.

4

Agent Activation

Coordination infrastructure comes online.

Agents assist with pattern recognition and overhead. The labor scales; the authority stays human.

5

Treasury Activation

The local treasury becomes deployable.

The Blok can now fund the material requirements of civic action — within permanent constraints that don't bend.

6

Network Emergence

The Blok's coordination patterns begin traveling across the Network.

Other communities learn from what worked here. No one prescribes it. It propagates.

7

Governance

The community directs itself.

The scaffolding becomes the foundation. This is what everything before it was building toward.

The two rails

Participation and money never mix.

This is not a policy preference. It is the structural invariant that makes the whole system fair.

Participation Rail

$BLOK

$BLOK is the participation signal. It is issued to Participants whose verified civic contributions are documented in an admissible Civic Record. It is the sole source of legitimacy within CityBloks.

$BLOK is earned through verified action. Never purchased.

  • Earned only through verified civic contribution
  • Issued after resolution, never before
  • Does not represent ownership, profit, or decision-making authority
  • Cannot be transferred or sold
  • Has no monetary value — it is memory, not money

Cash Rail

Treasury Value

Treasury Value lives in the local treasury and funds civic action. It comes from economic flows associated with the Blok's operation and is deployed to support public-benefit coordination.

Treasury Value never produces $BLOK. $BLOK never enters the treasury.

  • Funds material costs of civic coordination
  • Governed by Steward pre-governance standards until Stage 7
  • Cannot be distributed to Participants as income
  • Cannot fund private interests
  • Deployment must be grounded in a verified Driver

The separation between the Participation Rail and Cash Rail is a canonical invariant — it cannot be waived, overridden, or modified by any Participant, Blok steward, or organizational decision. It is what makes CityBloks structurally incorruptible.
